The biggest obstacle to achieving fuel economy/GHG goals and energy independence is consumer acceptance of green vehicles. Only 1 percent of cars on the road today are hybrids, and the sales rates for hybrid cars are not increasing even as more models are offered. Even if we can get the fuels right, the infrastructure right and the technology right, the consumer is the key piece of the puzzle..and also the wildcard.
