Honda Creates More Jobs and Brings More Fuel Efficient Vehicles to the Market

We were excited to learn that one of our members, Honda, is boosting its manufacturing capacity at its Greensburg, Indiana manufacturing facility and will add production of the Civic Hybrid starting in early 2013. 

In addition to being a zero-waste-to-landfill facility, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC (HMIN) boasts the most diverse alternative fuel production capability of any plant in North America.  The plant already produces the Civic Natural Gas, Acura ILX, and Acura ILX Hybrid; in addition to the gasoline-powered Civic Sedan. It’s also worth noting that Honda is investing $40 million into the plant and plans to add 300 additional employees to its workforce of 2,000 associates.

Consumer acceptance of green vehicles, like the Civic Hybrid and Civic Natural Gas, is crucial to their success. While hybrid sales were up 63.2% in June, it is still a very small percentage of total vehicles sales. Factors such as government subsidies, company rebates and gas prices all play into sales as well. Acceptance of these vehicles will help automakers meet the new 2017-2025 greenhouse gas vehicle standards to be released any day now.
